You will already know that this can be a big barrier for parents who want to return to work - but there is a range of help available. We can help you find childcare, and in some cases help with initial costs:
Types of Childcare
- Registered Childminders
- Care for children at the childminders home
- Usually work with up to four children
- Some are able to take on very young children or children with special needs
- Nurseries
- Pre-school care for children aged three and over
- Sitter Service
- Care for children in their own homes
- Provides a familiar setting to children
- Crèches
- Often available during short training courses
- Informal Care
- Care provided by family or friends
Finding Childcare
- The Childcare Information Service provides an online service at www.scottishchildcare.gov.uk that holds information on Childcare services
- Vacancies with childminders can be searched for in your local area
- If you are having difficulty finding childcare, one of our Employability Support Workers might be able to offer Childcare Support.
- We have a fund that may be able to help you with:
- Deposits for nurseries or registered childminders if you are starting work
- Initial advance payments for nurseries or registered childminders if you are starting work
- Support while undertaking a short course that will help you find work
